The BRSI's mechanical lab is recognised by the SPF mobility and transport as technical service for the approval and calibration of the devices used by the tachographs fitters in compliance with the Royal Decree of July 14 2005. This lab is also accredited for the control of certified tachographs fitters' workshops, in compliance with the same Royal Decree.
Besides, the BRSI is also recognised by the SPF mobility and transport for the control of certified speed limitation devices fitters' workshops (RD of February 15 2006). The lab has two fully equipped vehicles to perform on site a thorough control of the whole workshop and a calibration of all the devices.
A company can only launch some devices onto the market if they have a certificate of approval. The BRSI's mechanical lab is accredited by BELAC, according to the ISO 17025 certification, to carry out research and tests, accreditation number (110- Test).
The workshops of certified tachographs and speed limitation devices fitters are inspected to ensure the correct application of the SPF mobility and transport requirements. The yearly inspection checks:
- the validity of the fitter's certification
- the validity of their training certificate and the completion of this training
- the presence and good condition of the required equipment and infrastructure
- the presence of workshop cards
- the validity of the devices' approval and calibration certification
- the workshop sheets
- the computer files
The BRSI is accredited, according to the ISO 17025 certification, for the calibration of the devices used in the workshops of certified tachographs fitters. The following devices may be calibrated on site:
- pressure gauge
- speed simulator
- pulse counter
- test track
- test drive
- test devices
- roller test benches
